pdated European Guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of the disorder
of insomnia were published in December 2023 in Journal of Sleep Research\
, within a special issue entirely dedicated to the most recent advances on
the topic\, considering both research and clinical aspects.\nInsomnia dis
order is prevalent\, costly and a risk factor for several mental and somat
ic disorders. Despite having a significant impact on health and quality of
life\, poor sleep and insomnia still only receive scarce attention\, and
results from numerous studies indicate that they often go underdiagnosed a
nd undertreated.\nSince the publication of the fifth edition of the Diagno
stic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders\, insomnia has been recogn
ized as an independent disorder\, which follows its own course and respond
s to its specific treatment whether it presents alone or comorbid with oth
er conditions.\nAccording to scientific evidence the first line treatment
of insomnia disorder is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).\nThe present Su
mmit will deepen the new guidelines and discuss the need for reducing the
gap between evidence-based recommendations and clinical practice\, which i
s still in almost all countries dominated by pharmacotherapy.\nFurthermore
\, authors will discuss the clinical characteristics of the disorder of in
somnia with a specific focus on cognitive and emotional factors.\nFinally\
, the first line treatment for the disorder will be overviewed with specif
ic attention to psychophysiological mechanisms associated with the changes
promoted by the intervention.\n&nbsp\;\n\nSPEAKERS\nProf. Dieter Riemann
